如果让大家说出十年之内大家比较喜欢的好莱坞电影的话，估计除了《肖申克的救赎》，我比较喜欢的《燃情岁月》（《秋日传奇》）应该也有很多人喜欢，记得当时第一次看的时候正在读大学，当时被完美的西部场景所震撼，被细腻的爱情所感动，当然，感受最深的是布拉德·皮特所扮演的狂野的Tristan的角色。随着老印第安猎人的深沉的陈述，序幕缓缓拉开，展现的是大时代背景下的Ludlow上尉一家的悲欢离合。

在IMDB上，《Legend of the Fall》这部电影也得到了6.9分。今天要说的，不是这部电影，而是电影中的一段插曲，当Samuel带着Susannal回家的时候，第一个晚上，全家围在火炉旁边，Susannal弹钢琴，Samuel唱歌，歌很动听，这次看的时候，就希望知道这首歌的原唱是谁，于是，就凭着能听清楚的一两句歌词在Google上搜索，搜索的句子是“She belongs to another another forever”，在Google的第一页发现Google Answer上曾经有人问过这个问题（Google Answer不是已经停了吗？），Trace链接之后，发现歌的名字是《Twilight and Mist》，这个名字挺难翻译，不知道网上是不是已经有高人翻译出来了。
继续Google这首歌，发现了词作者的网站和关于这首歌的声明，原来已经有无数的人在询问这首歌的情况，词作者James Horner说：已经有无数的人在问我电影《秋日传奇》中的这首歌……”，下面是原文：

I've received countly requests on various types of information concerning the song "Twilight and Mist" from Legends of the Fall. In the film, it is played on piano by Julia Ormond (Susannah) and sung by Henry Thomas (Samuel). On the soundtrack album, it is found at the beginning of the second track, "The Ludlows," in piano only. Though many have presumed that the solo piano was played by Horner himself, it is Randy Kerber's eloquent playing that graces this recording. This has been confirmed by sources in the industry who work with Mr. Kerber on a professional basis.

自此这首歌就找到出处了，原来是专门为这部电影所做的一首歌。下面就是这首歌应该如何翻译成优雅的中文了，翻译这个事我是极少做的，主要是因为自己英文太差的缘故，之前曾经做过一件事情就是把罗大佑的《黄色脸孔》的一部分翻译给一个网上素未谋面的英国朋友，因为有一段时间，我的Gmail的签名是这样的：
一样的手，一样的血
一样在艳阳普照下点点生存
假如你睁开双眼，给我一个心照的诺言
给一双风吹雨淋后依然黄色的脸……
通过Picasa认识的英国朋友问我这是什么意思，于是我斗胆将之翻译成了英文，但肯定不能够体现出罗大佑的苍凉和博大和悲天悯人的情怀了。当时是翻译成这样的：
虽然有直译的嫌疑，但是我自己还是挺满意的，至少我觉得从英文的角度来看还算挺流畅的，而且如果选择用我的家乡口音来读的话，还挺押韵的。

这首《Twilight and Mist》，我首先想到的就是《在水一方》，何其相似啊，简直是相同的意境，相同的梦幻场景，如果用《在水一方》来诠释这首歌的话，除了我们是在水边而人家是在树林边，似乎挺合适的。不，如果仔细品味一下《Twilight and Mist》的话，就会发现多了些平缓的狂野和有节制的奔放，之所以觉得是“平缓的”狂野，是因为音乐如此舒缓，而在薄雾渐起的傍晚，美丽的女孩儿牵着马缰，在树林边静静伫立，马代表着奔放，而马静静的伫立，则是一种舒缓的狂野，仿佛平静的水面下的暗流涌动，这种意境和电影的整体的基调何其相似！整部电影的基调如果用布拉德·皮特主演的另外一部电影的名称《大河奔流》来形容的话，真的是非常恰当。
把《在水一方》贴在这里，跟《Twilight and Mist》对比一下，如下：

再看《在水一方》的歌词，也有“我愿逆流而上，依偎在她身旁”这样的句子，在无尽的温婉之中，也有搏击逆流的坚强，所以，这两首歌的意境真是非常相似。
Google这首歌的翻译，发现有两个版本，这两个版本都是我非常、非常、非常不喜欢的，所以不贴在这里，因为这两个版本都没办法表达出这首歌的意境，一个是直译，简直跟用金山词霸等机器翻译出来的没有区别；另外一个倒是有心，用古诗体来翻译，虽然也还恰当，但是“夜幕薄低垂，有女林边伫”这种句子，将整首歌的意境全部给弄丢了，我看到这两句就想把孔雀东南飞里面的“自挂东南枝”放在诗中间的某一个地方，感觉特别不好，如果只看这两句的话，我会觉得这是一个悲情小品，“夜幕薄低垂”中的“低垂”给人一种压抑的感觉，让人以为后面引出的是更悲伤的事情，所以不好。再什么“轻声复太息”简直就是抄得不伦不类，以我的古文水平，想起来的是“长太息以掩涕兮，哀民生之多艰”和“不闻机杼声，唯闻女叹息”，悲情仍然过重，和整首歌的基调完全不符。还有就是，如果用工整的对仗、古体诗的方式的话，工整固然是有些工整，但是缺少了一唱三叹的那种转折，如果用现代白话的方式来表达的话，使用的好，应该可以形成情绪上的酝酿和迭加，因此效果应该会更好。
我在想我的翻译版本，希望能够至少让我满意，翻译完了再贴上来。
